My current research interest are focussed to understand the tropical paleoevironmental (climate and vegetation) changes and variability, natural and under the human impact since pre-Columbian times. Most of the time I work in Quaternary palynology and phytoliths to trace climate variations and vegetation changes on millenial and decadal to orbital time scales. Special emphasis is given to decadal time scales with very high resolution (25-yr) in global climate change of the Holocene, Late Glacial and the Eemian. Several sites I have studied in Colombian: the tropical rain forest (TRF) of the Amazon Basin and Chocó province, the inter-montane dry biomes, savanna ecosystem and its boundaries with TRF, river dynamics and their sedimentation processes, marine palynology and paleoecology in the Andean cordillera of northern South America. As a assistance professor I"m involve in different research projects at the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales (ICN) - Universidad Nacional de Colombia and at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) - University of Amsterdam, working as a coordinator of the "mega" Fuquene Project under the supervision of Prof.dr. Henry Hooghiesmtra. This project aims to study with tremendous resolution of every 1 cm of the 60 m long Fuquene core.
