The University Superior Council is the maximum direction and government authority for the University. It is composed according to the Article 11 of the Extraordinary Decree 1210 of 1993, as following:
- The national Minister of Education or Vice-Minister will preside over it.
- The Nation’s President will appoint two members. One of them will be a graduate student from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
- A former president of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, who has exerted the position and is been elected by the remaining ex-presidents.
- A member by the National Council of Superior Education, designated from a list of three candidates presented by the National Council of Science and Technology.
- A designated member from the Academic Council.
- A University professor who would have at least the associate rate and who would be elected by the faculty staff.
- An undergraduate or graduate student, elected by the students.
- The University President, who would be the Council’s Vice-President and would have voice but no vote.
The tasks that should be executed were established, among others by the article 14 in the Agreement 011 of 2005 – General Statute.
